Bretton Brown
Bretton is a Japanese American pianist based in London, known for his work as a song accompanist, chamber musician, and performance coach. He made his London debut in 2016 with Renée Fleming at Wigmore Hall, and has performed at major venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Aix-en-Provence Festival, the Barbican and the Edinburgh International Festival. Bretton is dedicated to mentoring young talent as Senior Professor of Collaborative Piano at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Since 2024 Bretton has led the resident artist program at the Lakes Area Music Festival in Minnesota. Originally from Kentucky, Bretton studied at Yale, Juilliard, and the New England Conservatory. During his Assemblage residency, Bretton worked at the Opéra Comique in Paris on a revival of George Benjamin’s contemporary opera, “Picture a Day Like This.”
